Summertime in the Rockies

Ah, summertime!  The trees put on their leaves and the people take off their clothes!   Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of the summer festivals in the Pikes Peak region.  We attended Territory Days in Old Colorado City on Saturday and enjoyed some interesting people-watching.  Folks pour out in droves around here when the weather turns warm (summer only lasts one day from 2:00 to 4:00 around here, by the way, so everyone has to be sure they take advantage of the good weather - ha!).   It cracks me up to watch folks around here live for summer, while back in Georgia and Alabama we spent all summer longing for fall! 

On Sunday we took the dawgs and rode out to Lake George, which is about 25 minutes from here.  We went to 11 Mile State Park with the intent of letting the dawgs out to play for a bit.  We forgot that it was Memorial Day weekend and the place was absolutely crawling with picnickers and fly fishers.  I would be surprised if there were any fish left at all after that day!  There was a lot of traffic so we couldn't let the dawgs out, but I did get some good pictures.

We finally did find a little place to let the dawgs run around and play - or at least we gave them that option.  It is obvious that we are the owners of two very spoiled "city dawgs", for they usually spend their entire outside play time looking at us with big eyes as if to say, "Can we go home now, Mummy and Daddy?  It's quite uncivilized out here."  Le puff, le pant.
